Mr. Queen

A modern-day chef named Jang Bong-hwan finds himself mysteriously transported back in time and wakes up in the body of Queen Cheorin, the queen consort of King Cheoljong during Korea's Joseon Dynasty. Confused and disoriented, Bong-hwan struggles to reconcile his contemporary mindset with the strict and dangerous court life of the 19th century. His sudden presence in the queen’s body causes unusual behavior that raises suspicions among the palace staff and courtiers.

As Queen Cheorin, Bong-hwan must navigate the complex power dynamics of the royal palace. He quickly realizes that the king, Cheoljong, is a weak and indecisive ruler, easily manipulated by powerful court officials, especially the conservative Chief State Councillor. Meanwhile, the queen's position is precarious, with various factions vying for influence and the ever-present threat of political intrigue. Bong-hwan’s modern sensibilities and outspoken nature clash with the expectations placed upon a Joseon queen, leading to both comedic and tense situations.

Despite being in a foreign time and body, Bong-hwan tries to maintain some control over his new life. He attempts to use his knowledge of modern cooking and etiquette to make an impression, which earns him both admiration and suspicion. Bong-hwan finds himself caught in the middle of a dangerous political game, needing to use both his wits and knowledge of history to survive.

As the story progresses, Bong-hwan’s identity as a modern man trapped in a historical woman’s body becomes known to a few trusted individuals within the palace, including the king’s loyal bodyguard and the queen’s personal ladies-in-waiting. This creates a small network of allies who assist him in navigating palace life and uncovering plots against the throne. With their help, Bong-hwan begins to piece together the mysteries surrounding the palace intrigues and the true nature of the power struggles at play.

One of the key turning points occurs when Bong-hwan discovers that the queen’s previous behavior had been misinterpreted, and that there are deeper secrets behind the queen’s role in court politics. He learns of a plot to remove King Cheoljong and place a more controllable figure on the throne.
